Common Questions

Not at all. IT support handles day-to-day issues, password resets, printer problems, software installations. IT advisory is about the bigger picture: helping you make smarter decisions about your technology, your processes, and how your team works with both. Think of it as having an experienced IT director in your corner without the full-time salary.
This is specifically designed for smaller businesses, typically 1 to 30 people. The challenges you face with technology are often the same ones large companies deal with. The difference is you don't have an in-house IT team or a consultancy on retainer to help navigate them. That's the gap this fills.
It depends on what you need. Single advisory sessions are £120 per hour. Defined projects start from £500 for focused work and from £2,500 for more substantial engagements. Monthly advisory arrangements start from £300. Every engagement begins with a free discovery call where we work out what makes sense for your situation and budget.
That's completely normal and honestly quite common. Most people who reach out know something isn't right but can't pinpoint exactly what it is. That's what the discovery call is for. You describe what's going on, and we figure out together what would actually help.

You get direct access to the person doing the work, there's no account manager, no junior analyst, no handoff to someone you've never met. The advice comes from over a decade of hands-on IT leadership experience, not a playbook. And because there's no corporate overhead, the pricing reflects the value of the work, not the cost of a fancy office.

"Given tech is not my strongest point, Gurpal makes the process so simple for me with the information he provides, along with his guidance in reassuring me on matters I am either uncertain or unfamiliar with."

Then we stop. There are no long-term contracts or lock-in periods. If at any point you feel this isn't delivering what you need, you can walk away. If I feel we're not the right fit either, I'll tell you and I'll do my best to point you towards someone who is.
Primarily remotely, which keeps things flexible and efficient for both of us. If a particular engagement benefits from being on-site (like observing how a team actually works day-to-day), we can arrange that. Based in London, so travel within the UK is straightforward.
The focus is on advisory, helping you make the right decisions and plan effectively. If you need hands-on implementation (like building an app or setting up infrastructure), I can help you find the right people for that and make sure the brief is clear. Occasionally, for smaller technical tasks, I'll roll my sleeves up. But the real value is in the thinking and the guidance, not the button-clicking.
Usually within a week or two of the initial discovery call. For urgent situations, we can often move faster. The discovery call itself can typically be booked within a few days.
